G20 Focuses On India-Middle East Transport Corridor

Sep 9, 2023

The US-backed India-Middle East Transport Corridor Project aims to connect Europe, the Middle East and Asia through rail and sea links to counter China’s Belt and Road infrastructure initiative.

The rail and shipping corridor would enable greater trade among the countries, including energy products – the project would include a new undersea cable and energy transport infrastructure.

The US is trying to re-focus attention on the region, to reassure traditional partners and to maintain influence. The EU’s role in the agreement was negotiated during a visit by Ursula von der Leyen to Abu Dhabi during recent talks with UAE president Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan.
